Evening,

I currently have a 2010 Citroen C4 1.6 diesel. Over the last couple of days, the windows have developed a mind of their own. They all go down of their own accord. Not at a constant rate though, it all seems quite random. The wing mirrors have also decided to move about at will too!

Holding the buttons up seems to do the trick but they still come down occasionally.

Ive tried disconnecting the battery for an hour but the issue persists. Where should I be looking? Could it be a dodgy fuse?

Any ideas appreciated!

Possibly a wiring fault - the wires between the body and the door are particularly susceptible to damage.

As stated above by GreenV8S that is the most probable cause and location of fault.

Is sticking it into a garage the most efficient means of solving it then? I know little about mechanics and even less about electrics.

I have, in the meantime, removed the fuses for the windows and mirrors but suspect this isnt the best long term solution!

How old is your battery?

Not sure how old the battery is, at least a few years old now. I havent had any other electrical issues with it so far.

It just so happens this started the day after doing my brakes. I left the driver's door open by mistake while it was raining heavily so im wondering if this has caused something to short out

The switch pack on the door might have water ingress then.

Could well be. You're going to have to examine the switches & see if they've got water in them.
Just done a Megane that kept popping its bootlid. Boot switch had a lot of water in it & this was shorting across the switch contacts.

And yes, that bit of info should have been in the original post!

With paintman on this, water has very likely got into the switch or door loom plug/socket
