Window regulator repair

My auntie has a quirky little Mitsubishi colt czc that she’s had from new and is very fond of

Sadly the tiny electric rear window (its a tin top retractable roof jobbie) has failed and dropped inside the body. This means the front window is now open and won’t close due to the logic for the roof opening

It’s in my garage keeping dry (I’m first port of call for family car issues)

Looking online the rear window regulator when available on eBay are around 450, which is a lot

Is there a way to get these sent off and repaired

I’m hoping today I can wait for a dry spell and manually position the rear window in place to enable temporary use of the car again.

I have done a few Wire Rope replacements. Hyundai, Kia and Citroen
They are fiddly.

Being a bit quirky (is she it's Mother?) there may not be Kit available.

Very quick Google there are universal Kits available

There is not a lot of room for error on the lengths.

This is assuming the Rope has snapped and it is not a broken Clip.

Regulator out and prop the Glass with a length of Wood while you source Parts/Repair

Dont take this the wrong way because I know knack all about the problem but I have just done en ebay search using

'Mitsubishi colt czc electric window parts' and there seems to be a range of parts much less than the £450

I think the intital hope is to jam it like you say, which will then hopefully allow the front window to operate again

They are all either front or rear left window

The drivers side rear only seems to have one at 450

Funnily enough I can see second hand cars with in related issues for 500 for the whole car!

What are the conditions for being able to close the Front Window?

I am guessing you will need to defeat a Switch.
This may be part of the Rear Window Regulator.

Is the Passenger Side working Ok for testing what will do what?

For the front window to close the little rear one has to be closed

I’ve not had it apart yet, but I’m hoping to find that it’s a separate microswitch or similar

Presumably you do need to close the rear window too for the car to be usable, so defeating the switch logic doesn't solve the problem. But if you wanted to defeat the logic, it might be as simple as taking trim off to find a microswitch that the window trips when closed.

Sadly I had it all apart this afternoon, couldn’t find a Microswitch. The cunning plan was to be able to wedge the rear window shut, disable the microswitch and use car until we find suitable parts.

It’s a tricky one, don’t want to blow 450 on a part that is second hand and might work. Tricky tricky

Looking at the Ebay Pics of the Regulator, there is no obvious Switch.
I am wondering if the closed detection works like the anti-pinch in Electric Windows, where over current causes the Window to stop.
No idea if this is the case.

I would suggest ordering the Universal Wire Kit. £18.

Keep the intact original wire and it will give you two shots at getting it right.

The re-wires I have done have been on more common Cars and have been supplied at the right length with the nipples on each end.
They are fiddly and likely to take a few attempts. An extra Pair of hands help.

How easy was the Regulator to get out?
Wondering if looking at the one on the Passenger side would help.
Maybe even removing the wire and measuring the length of it to make one the correct length to replace the snapped one.

Presuming everything was working prior to the wire snapping and the window dropping, replacing the wire should in theory get everything working again.

window regulator just got cable kit of ebay 26 £ tock 30 mins to fix it im no mechanic

Having same problem with one I've taken in part exchange recently rear passenger one. Was working now stopped and it's the little nylon wheels that have cracked and they're not included in the repair kits. Fiddly part and at 450 for secondhand really not good
