I've got a problem with my E92 M3 where the door glass is sitting about 5mm too low, meaning it just barely contacts the rubber seal at the top of the door and I get loads of wind noise when driving above about 40 mph. Has anybody else ever had this problem in a car with frameless doors? I'm hoping it's not something exclusive to BMWs and that there's a way to adjust it, maybe on the window regulator itself?

So far all my searching has turned up three similar, but different, issues:

1. The angle of the window glass is too upright, so it doesn't contact the seal properly
2. The topmost position for the glass needs to be recalibrated, because the window controller thinks it's right at the top when it actually isn't
3. The door itself is out of alignment

My glass angle looks fine and I've followed the official BMW window controls recalibration process but that hasn't helped. The alignment of the door looks fine as well, so it just seems to be that the glass is somehow physically sat about 5 mm too low in the door (I'm basing this on how it looks compared to the glass on the passenger side, which is fine).

You adjust it by removing some plugs at the bottom of the door then you can move the window up and down,

I had to do it on my E46, it was fiddly but solved the problem (same as yours) completely.

Is there any play in the glass itself? I.e. can you put your hands on either side of the glass and move it up and down without too much force?
I’m just wondering if it’s either come loose from the clips that hold the glass, or if the clips are damaged somehow meaning that when you reset the window adaptions, it’s making it be set to the wrong height.

That's the glass angle adjustment I mentioned. It seems to allow you to angle the glass in or out more, but not to actually move it up or down. To quote from the thread:

"The shaft has a toothed cog on the end that moves along a track to push the bottom edge of the window regulator inwards or outwards, which moves the top edge of the window outwards or inwards respectively."

Hmm good idea. I'll give that a try once it stops raining...

I had chance to faff with the door/glass a bit more last night. There doesn't seem to be any play in the glass whatsoever as it can't be moved up by hand even a mm using as much force as I dared.

With the door open the window should go 5mm short of fully up & then go fully closed when the door closes.

This is to ensure it does not catch on the lower seal lip.

Does this happen?

If not the issue is the door closure not being correct.
