Hi all, before I start please accept my apologies in advance - I am not very knowledgeable when it come to cars!

I have a 65 plate skoda fabia and while I was driving my daughter to school after a night shift last Thursday I would down my electric passenger side window to clear condensation.

The window went all the way down but wouldn't come back up. It won't budge.

My brother used to fit car windows and had a look at it for me.

The button seems to be working, you can hear it clicking when it's pressed. He said the regulator was in order and thought there must have been a fault with the motor.

The motor only seems to be available from the main dealer for £156 so I ordered one from a breaker and was assured that it is in perfect working condition.

I drove the car on Sunday briefly and had a warning message of ERROR: AIRBAG come up on the dash along with the orange/yellow airbag symbol.

That error still comes on.

The motor part arrived today but it has not resolved the problem.

When you pull the window switch you can hear it clicking but the motor just will not spin.

Have checked a few fuses which seem OK but I'm assuming that if a fuse had blown the switch wouldn't be getting any power either.

I tried disabling the passenger side airbag to see if the airbag error went away but it didn't.

I'm starting to think now that there may be some general wiring problem, affecting the motor and the airbag, but then again, would the electric window switch be receiving power if that was the case?

My head is blown! Any advice or ideas greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

If its the passenger side does it open or close from the driverside ? If it does then that rules out the motor, switch and regulator. If it still doesn't work I would have thought the regulator might be the main issue, does the door lock and unlock ? have you tried disconnecting the main connector at the door pillar ? was the regulator supplied exactly the same part number - it has to be exact.

Thanks very much for your reply.

No, neither of the switches will pull the window back up.

Yes the door will lock and unlock.

It wasn't the regulator that I ordered, I have been told that is in order, it was the electric motor.

The 'spinner' on the old motor didn't spin so assumed it was faulty so replaced it. This one is exactly the same. Yes it's definitely the same part (the motor), exactly the same. You can hear it clicking and the power getting to it, it just won't spin.

Sorry I have no idea, I really am useless with cars. Its this part from the image. The cog won't spin at all to move the window

Get somebody competent to inspect the wiring where it passes between the door and the body. It's a common failure point and can cause all sort of weird symptoms.

Thank you. I did try to reply to say thanks last night but the site blocked comments from new members due some abuse of rules apparently. Thanks again

1. Just because the switch clicks doesn't mean it is working electrically.

2. With 2 "electrical" faults in the same area I would be suspecting a plug/socket (if they are on your car) or wiring loom (if not) issue in the door.

Unplug the plug that connects it to the body of the door....its in the dor jam. and replug it in. Check also connections under seat and finally check the door footwell is dry and report back.

Hi Timmos, thanks for your reply.

I unplugged the connectors in both of the door jams and reconnected them.

No joy unfortunately. The airbag error is still present too.

The footwell is dry.

I cannot see any cabling under the seat.

Since I have done the door jam cables, I have noticed that the red light in the drivers door that used to flash when it was locked is now solid Red (not flashing).

I think I'm going to have to get it to an auto electrician.
