Hi there,

Car in question is a 2009 audi r8 v8

The issue is I've come to start up the car which I expected to be flat as I've been away for a while and its happened before.

Past times this has happened (2 times) I've used the manual bonnet release wire under the glove box accessed the battery and charged it up.

Issue this time is that the battery is that dead I cant even use the central locking so my only access to the car is manually opening the drivers door (cant open passenger) I have tried pulling the manual release multiple times but theres just no give whatsoever.

I've spoken to a mechanic who's worked on the car previously and he reckons the car may of deadlocked meaning the manual release is now of no use.

So ultimately my issue is I need to charge the battery to access the car but I need to access the car to charge the battery

Any help is appreciated

Does it have a cigarette lighter? There are trickle chargers that work through the lighter socket. Might get enough juice to pop locks.

Hey, yeah it does I have toyed with trying this but I've read other threads that strongly reccomend against it or say it doesn't get enough power in to do anything

Is the starter motor main power terminal accessible from under the car? That would give you a high current connection to the battery which could be used to charge it.

From speaking with the mechanic pretty much no as far as I'm aware. He says its completely encased underneath and very inaccessible. Very frustrating situation

Is it a manual? If so, could you jump start it with a tow?

Yeah, it's a manual. I did consider this but last time I couldn't even jump start it from another car via jump leads because it was to depleted I had to charge it for a few hours. However it was turning over then but now theres not even enough power to unlock the doors lol

Charging with the cigarette lighter socket should be fine.

I’ve charged my Porsche like this several times. The wiring is normally capable of 10amps, although you could check what fuse is fitted to be on the safe side.

Just make sure your charger output doesn’t exceed this. A decent modern one like a CTEK would be 5 or 7 amps probably.

You don’t even need to leave it like that for ages, just enough to get everything powered up enough to get proper access.

Have you looked in the manual for help? Porsche have an electronic front boot release, they have a retractable post in the fuse box in the cockpit to enable you to power the car up enough with jump leads to release the boot, then jump start the car.

Can you open the boot, if so could try putting a live feed to boot light it may give enough power to
unlock it

Only if the cigarette lighter is permanently live.

It will still be fine if it’s not live. It just won’t charge the battery. wink

Wouldn't turning the ignition key to the on position open the circuit?

At the end of the day you only need enough power to work the locks.

Yes but be careful leaving keys in vehicles re insurance ramifications.

A recovery service to get you inside the car first? I am sure they have plenty of experience of helping people who are locked out of their car....... which you essentially are as the manual release isn't working.
