Wondering if any of you knowledgable for can help?

I’ve had to remove a side mirror off my car to respray a rusty wing mirror mount. The quarter window was fixed in place with rubber seals and a bedded in with a sticky black compound - a little crumbly given the car is a decade old.

What is the gummy substance I need to purchase to reseat the window?

Something like Sika-268 is what you *need* if you want to bond glazing as the manufacturer. You won't get it and it's stupid expensive.

A high quality PU sealant/adhesive will do you just fine. Something like this:

Or even the Sika/everbuild Puraflex stuff you can get from Toolstation will be fine.

Got some. Many thanks for the tip.

Also, any idea where I can get the foam gaskets from?

The part in the post above is if your glass was bonded in place, from your description it sounds as if it is fixed in a rubber, if so then the black stuff you refer to is called Arbomast. The glass is fitted back to the vehicle and then you pump the Arbomast between the glass and the rubber and also between the rubber and the body. This is just to stop water seeping past and not to hold it in place.

What car is it and which piece of glass?

It’s a 2007 v8 vantage and the glass does sit in a rubber channel. The stuff you posted sounds about right. Makes a sticky black mess on my hand.

That might be Butyl tape then. Hard to tell from the photos.

Sorry, here’s a better picture of th foam gasket. The stuff you linked to is probably what i need to seal the window. The foam gasket seals against the door skin. Here’s a better image. Is it just neoprene or a automotive specific type?

Big thanks to renplug on the arbo mastic. It’s exactly what I needed. I set the rubber gasket and then filled it before inserting the quarter glass.

Only issue now is that I have solitary screw left over...
