Hello All

Just a quick question. I'm trying to source some car ramp extensions for my A6.

These looked reasonably robust compared to some others but will they take the weight of the car? I mean I know the car must weigh a ton or two but its only taking the weight of the front and for a short period.

Still it says only 800Kg which seems low to me but maybe its ok?

A ton or two!? The top A6 is very close to 2 tonne, easy to search and find, even more so with the handbook and chassis label on the car wink Even the lightest A6 is over 1.6 tonne, so at a minimum weight of 400kg a corner, they are borderline.

I am always surprised at the low weight performance of jacks, ramps etc, compared to medium/large size saloons.

I used some from Machine Mart with my A8 (D2, 3.7 Quattro) without issue, I can't even find a weight rating for them.

Given that you're not using them to span a gap, I'd be inclined to say they'll be fine, at worst it'll bend the mounting hook tabs, which looks like a bit of a daft choice.

Thanks a lot guys for useful and constructive comments.

Its the only one I could find for that sort of price that are wide enough.

Capacity 400kg means they will be tested to probably 125% of that.

As above get them & put a block of wood under the middle of the span to be 150% certain.

I made some out of leftover wood.

Gravel boards, scaffold boards anything like that.

I've made some from old inch thick boards with some angle iron on the lower edge to help strengthen them.

Don’t use blocks or bricks under cars. They can crack and split.

Don't take a chance with anything safety related, it only takes a moment for a couple of tons of car to fall without warning and kill you or put you in a condition where driving is out of the question ever again for the rest of your days.

I had one fall once, I was being ham-fisted as I lowered my car from the trolley onto Axle Stands and I inadvertantly let it down much too fast, a sobering experience even though I wasn't even under it.

Might be worth investigating whether second-hand Ramps are stronger though. Mine are old & sturdy and while I've no idea of their rating without looking, I bet its a lot more than 800Kg (they're not for sale).
