The car is a 2004 Skoda Octavia with a high milage VW 110hp ASV 1.9 TDI, without a DPF.
I've been using 5-30 fully synth 505.01 spec oil, however this time my VW dealer gave me Mercedes branded 5-30 MB 229.51
I'm hoping it's suitable?
Thanks for any ideas.

I have both two Mercedes engined cars one being petrol and the other diesel, I also have a diesel VW, all three are run on the same spec of oil (as recommended by each manufacturer) they all use 229.51 or higher, this is a low ash oil for cars with a dpf fitted.
The short answer is yes it will be fine in my humble opinion. Hope that helps you.

The engine will notice the difference straight away and throw a rod.

It'll be fine. The pre PD engines are a lot less fussy, even 505.01 spec is higher spec than is required.

Great, thanks guys. I've already put the oil in, just looking for reassurance, I guess. I'll keep an eye out for any conrods coming through the bonnet.

It'd run just fine if you sloshed it into the fuel tank wink
