Looking for a cheap way of reading and clearing fault codes, what's the best code reader for this purpose?

Not looking for anything too fancy like coding or software updates, although that would be a plus obviously.

Car's are 2009 116i and a 2015 120i

Get a Snap On Solus or the like used from ebay, only a couple of hundred quid so cheap, and you can sell it for what you paid

If you have a smart phone, BimmerLink is an excellent app. I also use BimmerCode if to code in features on the car.

Autel AP200 is very good. Buy on Amazon

It is a Bluetooth adapter and connects to your phone.
It does a lot more than the generic cheap readers.
It will show live data and does graphs.

Register one car maker for free such as BMW, then you can add others like Mercedes or whatever for about £20.

I use the OBD Fusion android app and a Carista bluetooth adaptor for the OBDII port for simple code reading, works fine.

If you go the OBDII Bluetooth adapter route, don't be tempted by the really cheap ones, I've not had much luck with them anyway, but the Carista has been totally reliable so far.

I use a BT vGate from amazon. Cost £10-ish. Cleared codes and coded bits to the car from my phone. Works well

So much choice!

I like the idea of the Autel AP200 as we're planning to get a 911 soon so I guess I could add that manufacturer at a later date.

The Carista seems to have mixed reviews on amazon but that's probably down to the app rather than the device itself.

Thanks for all the responses, very handy.
