Hi folks

I'm looking for a recommendation for a generic set of caliper rewind tools. I've got the Halfords-bought Laser one which i bought years ago specifically for a VAG rear caliper, but then i had jap cars for a bit, which all were the traditional push-back type. Recently, having switched to other marques in the family i noted that i am back to the rewind type. In the house currently are a 996, Discovery 4 and Hyundai Hybrid thingy-wotsit white goods box.

I recently did pads on a family members C-Max, borrowed a kit from my brother for that, but it didn't have correct plate for this c-max, got there in the end by hacking apart and old pad and fashioning one to get it moving. I've also been asked by my brother in law to do pads on his focus since yesterday ford quoted him £175 for front pads, stating they were 70% worn. They aren't, but there's no telling him now!

So, could anyone recommend me a decent kit that's wide-ranging and will cover lots of cars, including some fairly modern stuff? All the kits on amazon and eBay look great, but this is the type i borrowed and it didn't have the correct adapter. numbers 6 and 7 were close, but i needed a 6.5 (numbers made up of course!)

TIA for the help

I’ve got a Pagid set that is for use with an airline to push the cylinder back, its a good quality set but like pretty much all the ones I’ve had in the past it is too deep to fit in rear calipers when the pads are down to the metal.
Why does nobody make a set that will cope with the really small gap in these cases?

You can buy the laser adapters separate.

Get the number from here - https://www.lasertools.co.uk/products/Cars/Brakes/...

Google it to find cheapest.

Better than taking a gamble on the "universal" ones.

You won't want to be using a wind back tool on the discovery - or the 3008 on your other thread, you will also need to connect them up to a second power source while the ignition is on as if they turn themselves off due to low power you may find yourself buying new calipers

OP, if you've not already got something sorted out, I bought this set on eBay:

it's not in a fancy case but in the EVA foam drawer insert, but it does come in cardboard packaging and seems to have a massive range of adaptors including a LH and RH threaded handle.

I bought a similar kit , although not as posh as Draper. Mainly for any car we own that I need to do the job. But since doing my daughters Seat , which it did easily, our Volvo has an electric handbrake, which , you need to either put in service mode with Vida, or I just unbolted the motors off the calipers and wind back with an allen key, our BMW doesnt need the kit and use my standard piston retraction tool and our Skoda Citigo has drum brakes !! Also the daughter has sold the Seat now and moved 100 miles away.
I guess it will get dusty in the garage , as a tool for life , but sods law I get a kit and now have no use currently for it !!
I didnt pay over £25 for it off ebay , its one of those red boxed cheapies, but it did work and to be honest, if I was going to use it regulary then I would pay more.
Also, you dont need a wind back piston tool for the front calipers, just a spreader tool. It just pushes on the piston without turning the adjustment in the piston, because there isnt one. Some get away with a G clamp or similar. I have one of these for the fronts
