Should the tappet easily come away from the rocker arm?

I lightly pulled out a rocker arm and it split in two. The tappet ball joint popped out of the arm socket very easily.

I have a ticking noise in the engine that would correspond with a faulty rocket arm but I've not the experience to know when an arm/tappet is faulty.

Looks like a hydraulic rocker arm post and a roller bearing rocker arm so they would come apart but usually the post would remain in situ.
If you don’t know much about engine why did you pull it apart?
Do you have a manual?
