Hi,

After about 10 years of waiting to buy a house with a garage I'm going to be looking for a scissor lift to make life just that bit easier maintaing my 5 cars.

What's good for about £1k? My heaviest car is just under 1.5 tonnes but I think something up to 2 tonnes would future proof.

If it makes any difference for sizing the cars are - 2x VW Corrados, 1x Mk2 Golf, 1x Mk4 Golf, 1x Seat Exeo

Thanks!
Matt

You can't really go wrong with any of the lifts offered by Automech, although I might stretch the budget a touch and grab an AS-7530D.
(Got room for a four poster instead...? evilbiggrin)

Exactly what I bought, and Automotech customer service is very good.

I've got the 7630, which is fine but if doing it again I'd probably go for the 7530D or 7532B, which gives more access to underside of car. Also, with the 7630 you'll almost certainly have to put boards down (or recess into floor) for vehicle to clear it.

Does the 7530 lift on the sill? Doesn't have rubber protectors. I wanted something I could get all 4 wheels off. If it does it does seem the best with drive on lift qualities.

Alternatively the chepaer AS 901/3 would probably do the job as well but won't cater for heavy cars.

The 7530 does lift on the sill. You would need rubber pads/blocks under sill. Plenty on e-bay. I have a few different sized hockey puck ones.

7630 in use

Oh lovely thanks! My mk2 does not look as tidy as yours ... mine is very much a project but only 1 owner from new!

BGE sticker stands for Budget Garage Equipment.

The lift came with three sets of rubber topped pillars . Those are the medium height ones in the photo. ( on the yellow swivel arms )

No oil included, so £1000.

I had longer hoses fitted so if left outside overnight the pump unit would be inside as it is in the photo and as the new hose had crimped fittings
I opted for a tee and a 90 on the pump. Cost of modded hydraulics £70 at my local fitters. £30 for oil.

£1100 total.

When its not in use for cars it has a sheet of 10mm ply on top and get used as a workshop bench. Handy for heavy items; load at 100mm, lift to 1M.
Also made those wood runners for low cars using studs and screws from Wickes. That Volvo has double sports ARB's.
Rolling road today so that should be interesting, then if all's well off to Santa Pod.

edit to add:- SWL 2.7 tonnes

This is mine. The ramps can be extended or lowered out of the way depending upon length of vehicle. It has safety latches but no harm using axle stands too - nasty way to die.

Bear in mind you will also need a small air compressor to lift the latches when lowering.

Take a look at Twin Busch too. I was all set to buy an automotech 2 poster, but was passing Twin Busch in Northampton one day and went in for a look. They were looking to compete with automotech so I got the lift for the same price, but they threw in The oil and a tranny jack to sweeten the deal and get my signature there and then
