Just noticed some minor damage on my recently acquired vintage car fan blade, I’ve attached a image. Guess at some time damage had occurred and a previous owner cut out the damaged section.
It’s a four blade fan made of alluminium, question is will this ultimately damage any components due to imbalance?
Should I have a section welded in to match other blades or replace entirely (not off shelf)?
Thanks.

Notice slight coolant leak which is due for attention.

It might be like that to balance it, you would be better finding out if it is out of balance before doing anything first.

Thanks gazza, no other part of the fan is altered at all just this section. Food for thought.

The only part that might be affected would be the bearings on the fan, and the water pump if it's mounted on that.

Engines that mount the fan on the crank nose might suffer, but its unlikely.

Of course, you could always cut the same shape out of the other blades to restore full balance and symmetry!

Gazza285 has given the advice you should be following. Making the opposing blade match could very well be returning it to being unbalanced.
