Hi there

Apologies if this is in the wrong section I’m new to this.
I’ve got a Golf Mk5 which I’ve had for coming up 3 years now (it was bought second hand). I have no idea whether this is an old problem or if it’s a recent problem as I don’t have anyone who sits in the back seats so I rarely use the back doors. I recently parked up and was in a rush, as I was walking away from the car I remembered I’d chucked my coat over the back when I’d got in the car, so without thinking I walked up to the car and just pulled on the passenger side rear door ...which opened but my car alarm went off! So I shut the door and locked it with the fob again as I usually do and I went around to each door and they were all locked but this one 😲it opens straight up but sets off my alarm!
How do I rectify this!? Any suggestions what is causing it?
Many thanks

Sounds like you have a failed door locking solenoid for that door.

I am assuming you can't unlock it either if you were to reach in & lock it manually.

The door needs to be stripped down & the solenoid replaced.

This recently happened to the front door of my son's Mk5 GTi. As has been mentioned, it just needed a new lock solenoid. Annoyingly there is no mechanical way of locking the door (no button) if that bit doesn't work, so it meant leaving the car unlocked!

Only took about 45mins to fit after he got one off eBay for less than £30. I didn't realise that you take off the outer door skin to access the inside of the door, rather than taking off the inner trim and breaking loads of fixings! I looked up the process on the Pelican Parts website, quite straightforward.
