Fitted new rear discs and pads to my 05 Fiesta ST earlier. Have vast experience of fitting both, and know I’ve done it absolutely correctly.

BUT...

Despite having now done enough miles to be certain they should be bedded in, the grinding noise every time I brake is really puzzling me. It sounds exactly like you’d expect pad/disc friction to sound when very very worn. Any suggestions on things to consider greatly received.

Find which corner it is coming from, take that wheel off and look for signs of metal-on-metal contact. If it's as bad as you describe, it's probably going to be obvious.

^^^^ Wot 'e said.

It is likely to be either something you have done or maybe a bit of grit etc stuck in a pad.

I have seen even the most experienced mechanics do something obvious like put a pad in the wrong way.

Check you havent bent your stoneguard so its too close to th edisc. I've had this problem twice (on seperate cars) and it causings a squeal/grate when your brake as if the pads are worn down.

I had that last year, after wondering when the pads were going to bed in, and it only getting worse I had another look and found I'd put one pad in back to front, so the braking surface was against the piston and the metal back was against the disc.

I've done it, it's a mistake you only tend to make once, like forgetting to tighten wheel nuts....

I've done that too, along with forgetting to put the sump plug back in
