Is it possible to disable the OBD socket to stop car thieves programming a key by putting a switch on pin 16 (+12v) of the OBD socket.

Yeah. Pull the power wire out of the back of it.

You'd be better off disconnecting/switching pins 6 and 14 (CAN H and L). If the device the theives were using was powered from the computer it was plugged into, or battery powered etc then disconnecting the power wouldn't help.

Or you could just unscrew the port and tuck it out of the way, hoping that if they can't easily get to it they'll move on to the next one.

Put obd2 dummy in ebay search.

These basicly replace your existing OBDII port with a fake one with your existing one resited to somewhere else of your choosing.
