New Jack advice - Spewed oil over floor (Clarke.. I know...)
Discussion
Hello all, just after some advice really. Bought a lightweight aluminium jack, 1.5t job. It's for going racing with only as I didn't want to have to pack a 30kg+ jack in to the tow vehicle each weekend I went racing, so my thinking was it wouldn't be used an awful lot so should last me a while, it was bought it on a whim really.
Jack 1 - I unpacked and jacked up the car and it p*ssed out oil from various orifices when lowering again. Thought this isn't right so took it back, explained and asked for advice, obviously they knew nothing about jacks so gave me another saying it shouldn't have happened.
Jack 2 - exactly the same scenario, this has been sent back to HQ for a '20minute' test and claim it's okay and are being arsey about a refund saying jack has no problem. But no-one has explained why it has dumped oil over the floor on 1st or 2nd use.
It seem's to jack reasonably okay but doesn't have performance I had expected really, fairly slow for 'quick lift'.
Is this normal for a new jack (I don't think it is...)? I just need a refund because I don't have any faith in it, especially lugging it to a race weekend for it to sh*t itself completely.
Any advice appreciated
Cheers
Kris

I'd keep pushing for a refund if the second one has leaked oil too.
I have actually had great success with my clark jack, but I have one of the simple standard ones like this for the past few years of regular use.

It never leaked on my first use (or any use) so definitely not normal.
Although (as you will know) you shouldn't rely on a jack to support a car to go under it, it could well be a backup thing that saves your life should an axle stand etc fail. I wouldn't accept one that has been leaking from day 1.
I suppose you could check the jack to see where it's leaking from (is it the fill hole? one of the seals?) but I'm of the opinion that it really isn't your problem to be starting to troubleshoot a brand new jack. I wouldn't be surprised if the check from HQ was a simple "does it lift and lower?"

Haha, Thanks for advice chaps..
But yes, I read the instructions which don’t mention anything about leaking oil on first use, loosened bung to let out air etc... wouldn’t expect to push fluid out as well though. Did the purge process although Jack didn’t feel spongey or particularly slow I would say.

Which orifices did oil come out of? If its from a seal, then the seal is knackered, from the piston, the piston is knackered, filler plug, its overfilled
Must be able to see where its leaking? That would go a long way to sorting it.
