Any ideas, please, where to look for the cause of the cabin ventilation fan on my C5 being on ALL the time?

I thought at first it was due to the cold weather, but a good run and it was getting toasty plus in there, and the fan is still running.

Thanks,
John

Has it always been like it?

Is it a new development?

Has anything been done to the car recently?

Is it always the same speed & if so what speed?

No. Else why would I ask?
Yes. Ditto.
No.
Yes. Maximum, as if it's clearing a misted front windscreen. Which is clear.

Any more Qs? Glad to answer

I don't know anything about your car, but on my Mondeo, there's a 'one shot' button that puts everything on maximum. Heat, fan, air con. Do you have something similar that you may have accidentally pushed?

Just to confirm, you've tried reducing the fan speed manually and it is still blowing at full speed?

Might be worth checking what's happening at this module

I had a Peugeot 406 which did this. Turned out it was the 'hedgehog' resistor as above. Simple fix once you've found it smile

Yeap, this was going to me suggestion too if the fan wasn't responding to the commands, its resistor.

Agree with the above. I’ve had it on a Peugeot and a citroen. On the Peugeot the fan wouldn’t work and on the citroen it was stuck on full speed. New fan resistor fixed both.

no 'one shot button'
Yes, nothing except turning off the aircon influences the fan.

Penelope, and others, thank you, a positive suggestion. Now to find the 'hedgehog resistor'!

My previous experience of not fixing a failed reversing sensor by the very simple job of replacing it, was scuppered by Citroen insisting on tagged replacements. Unless it's a 'Citroen'-tagged part, it won't work. So I may have to get hold of a 'Citroen' resistor, rven if they are available for tenth the cost elsewhere.

I'll report back
John

Same car, same age. Mine's been doing this for about 4 years, the only time the speed changes is when i put it in reverse.

Suggestions above are probably right, never been able to get the new resistor to sit right so i just gave up.

It's in the passenger footwell, right hand side under the dash at the back. Round by the pollen filter (And if you get an aftermarket one of those to fit first time let me know).

Good luck!

My thanks to all, esp. Penelope and Tallboy, for the diagram and access advice.

But I've had the trim panels off in both footwells and can't see anything that looks like that!
On your diagram, Penelope, the fan resistor appears to be more in the middle? Is it worth trying to dismantle the central console, in front of the gearstick and under the radio?
