New catalytic converter tripped o2 fault code
Discussion
Hi there.
I´ve got a Seat Ibiza 2003 auto which failed ITV/MOT on omissions and had an engine light on for the sensor. Fast forward - new lambda sensor, new spark plugs, new ignition coils which turned off the lambda sensor engine light. However still failed another ITV due to high omissions, so a new cat was fitted yesterday.
Omissions are now down and good. But the change of the cat has put the engine light back on with a lambda sensor fault code, again!! Bearing in mind that the sensor is only 3 months old and was working fine until yesterday. I cleared the fault code, but it came straight back on.
Am I correct in thinking that the sensor had got used to the high omissions and now needs to adjust to the new cat?
How can I do this? Clean the cat? Detach the battery to enable the sensor and ECU to "forget" the old cat?
I´m worried that if I drive it too much in this state with the fault code, that the sensor will damage the new cat.
Any help would be great. I´m going round in circles. Many thanks

Who diagnosed that and based on what symptoms?Neither the sensor nor the cat should need to be told they're new, but if the cat replacement didn't fix the original problem then you still have to identify that - a task that will be complicated by all the stuff you've changed since then.

How do you know?milly1066 said:
The fault code only showed up after the new cat was fitted.
You're giving very little information about what's been going on and seem to be assuming that these problems are unrelated, but that doesn't strike me as a safe assumption.GreenV8S said:
