Can anyone recommend a set of tall (4ft ish) axle stands to use with a two-post lift, please? I've looked online but I'm struggling to find some.

Thanks.

Never seen stands more than about 2ft, 4ft stands would ridiculously unstable, are you sure you want to do that?

They're recommended by many lift manufacturers and used commercially at 10+ tons (but I don't need that much). I think I'll be ok. thumbup

Mechanics at the bus garage where I worked used something like this, 2 wheels would be on the mobile lift, and the other axle had these.

Why would a four foot stand be unstable, if the foot spread was increased proportionally?

I made some, it isn't difficult if you can weld and have an angry grinder.
A few lengths of 50mm box section, 5 x 50 to tie the legs together and some 5mm plate for the tops. They're like 4 legged bar stools, I pick the car up, put one under each wheel then drop the lift. I use them for doing cill repairs and tracking.

Great idea, and I do have a welder and a small amount of welding ability... But would I trust my life to said welding ability??? eek

ETA: Angry grinder made me laugh. laugh

Grinders are always bad tempered little feckers hehe
Find a local trade steel outlet and the materials are surprisingly cheap, thick stuff is easy to weld, it's thin panels which are difficult. Get busy:

An early iteration of the string tracking system, later superseded.

Lolz

I’m not sure how safe I’d feel using an angry grinder

hehe

Perfectly timed thread btw. I’m also on the look out for some axle stands that will sit about 800mm high. I’ve been searching eBay for the last couple of months, but I think making my own is the best bet.

Sorry I misinterpreted your question late last night, but maybe it gave some useful ideas.

No they don't need them, there are no diagonal forces present which will overcome the design.
