Hi

I have a deligtful Ford Escort MK6 and during the lockdown the battery died. So I purchased a new Bosch battery but then discovered the replacement battery had round posts. So after the purchase of the appropriate converters, I attempted to install the new battery today.

Thats when I discovered the red wire with the black box thingy which is some sort of controller. It attaches to the positive terminal on the battery. I can't remember how it fits and a wide search of the internet didn't get any useful images or diagrams. Even the Owners Manual doesnt show this black box. I recall it lay snugly next to the battery. Ive tried to search for the part by its number and many other combinations of install, replace, battery, connectors etc but to no avail.

So can anyone help with a picture or a diagram of how this thing fits onto the battery?

Thanks in advance.

It would be a lot easier to get help if you put a photo up with your request.

Also begs the question as to whether this 'thingy' will fit properly - if at all - to some sort of adapter that has been fitted to what is the wrong battery.

I got into difficulties once changing an Escort battery as some divot thought it a good idea to have a black lead connected to the positive terminal!

Am trying to think back

Thinking that some Escorts had a fusebox with a solid connector that bolted directly to the main battery positive flat terminal

Is the black box thingy which is some sort of controller the fusebox?

Hi Penelope

You are right. The part no is 91AG14A076AB and its an auxilliary fuse box. It has a metal buss that you connect to the positive battery terminal. Trouble for me is that modern batteries have round posts (unlike the original battery) and the way the buss is shaped makes it difficult to re-attach. Its been suggested on other forums that I either flatten the buss or use a marine type clamp over the terminal post.

Here are pictures to illustrate the problem:

Any help appreciated

Cut the 90 degree bend of the bar off and drill a hole in the remaining flat part of the bar, now connect it to this........
