Mercedes SLK 200 central locking pump replacement
Discussion
First post from a not very mechanical savy guy - please be patient with me
So with the recent winter weather I've had issues with water getting into the boot (as does the condensation) and it's corroded some of the terminals on the central locking pump. This may have been going on for some time as I read on here that this is a common issue. Now that the central locking won't work and I have to use the key until I get it replaced/repaired.
Searching around I find second hand pumps around £200 to £280 but a genuine pump to be £480 and of course i'm told to not buy a second hand pump by Mercedes.
My question is does anyone have experience of fitting a second hand pump and it being perfectly fine? Cheers

it's a 2003 SLK 200 - first of all when locking the doors via the key fob you could hear the pump 'pumping' for up to a minute or so before the doors finally locked, opening them was no time. Then one day, nothing, the pump just gave up. I had a guy look at the car and he showed me the pump and the corroded points. It's now dead to me, I don't know of these can be repaired or if a second hand pump is ok to use. Mercedes advice was to only buy genuine but would they always say that, don't they.
