Squeal when car comes to halt. Help appreciated!
Discussion
Hello!
My ancient Audi 1.8t is driving me slightly potty.
I can start and drive for 10 miles fine, but when I come to a halt, the engine squeals for about 10/15 seconds (at 0mph).
It sounds like belt squeal, but I changed the belt and tensioner and no difference.
It does it in the dry and in the wet.
It does it with the air con off, and with the air con on.
It does it with lights on, and lights off.
Because it only lasts 10/15 seconds, I can't open the bonnet and chase down the squeal.
Any ideas?

Maybe give it a short drive with the belt removed, and if it doesn't do it, you've identified that it's definitely something with the accessory drive side of things.
As you've already tried a new belt, I'd check all the pulleys are clean, and that none of of them feel like there's any issues with the bearings.
