Morning,

Thought I would pick some brains with this little problem...

My lease car needs to go back and so I'm swapping my alloy wheels back to the originals. When I've taken off the aftermarket set, the aluminium spigot rings on the front wheels have stayed on the hubs. There's some corrosion on the hub as if water has got in behind them. The backs came off fine.

I've tried prizing them off but they wouldn't budge. My next thought was leaving some WD40 on over night but not sure that's a good idea applying around the hub.

Does anyone have any tips to get these off?

Sprockets? confused

Do you perhaps mean spacers or spigot rings?

You need to bring them off evenly, if it tilts it'll jam and its already obviously difficult enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if you need to use heat to expand it (faster than the steel of the hub) to get it off. Either that or just cut it off and buy replacements.

Yep. Hear would be my first port of call too.

Ok great. Will a heat gun do it?

If heat doesn't help, I'd use a dremel and a chisel (well, old screwdriver most likely) to put a split in them and prise them off.

If they won't come off nicely, or they look a bit shabby, grab a replacement set of plastic ones. Can usually pick them up on eBay for a few quid, never get them stuck again!
