I have a MK6 Ford Escort which has sat for 12m with battery disconnected. Have installed new battery and it’s delivering power but there’s no ignition. I suspect the immobiliser is unhappy. How do I disconnect the immobiliser to get the car to service tomorrow? Any ideas will help. Thanks.

It would be pretty useless as an immobiliser if it could just be disconnected...

When you say it has no ignition, do you mean there are no lights illuminated on the instrument cluster or it doesnt turn over on turning the key.

If its immobilised the red telltale light on the dashtop should be flashing rapidly. I cant be certain on a 96 but if you remove the lower A pillar trim in drivers footwell you should find the immobiliser module, using a scotchlock joining the two black wires together should bypass the immobiliser though you would be better trying to trace and repair the fault.

These cars suffered from common fusebox problems which are easily repaired if you know what your doing.

If I remember correctly there's a small positive lead that goes to the battery as well as the main one, you haven't forgotten to connect that have you?
