Should I Use Sealant On A Gasket For A Water Pump?

If a water pump comes with one of those thin gaskets should I use sealant as well? It's for a 1.6 16v Ford Focus 2002...

I would for a belt and braces approach, victor reinz sealant or equivalent... clean the mounting surface and a smear worked over by finger.

Build it up, then fill with fluid next day to let the gasket and sealant cure thoroughly before being put to the test
