Hi All

My family has got a range rover. When they stop at traffic lights or when the engine is running but car is not moving, it makes noises (may be rattling). Any one know what's wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Had similar last year. Turned out to be the water pump and had to be replaced.

That just about takes the biscuit for the least information ever given in a request for help. Good grief!

It's a range rover. It may (or may not) be rattling.

Petrol - diesel?
Engine size?
Old - new?
Manual - auto?
Does it stop when the engine is off?
Has it had any recent work?
Any lights on the dash?

How much did it cost changing water pump? Will anything show on Bluetooth OBD 2 scanner?

does the noise change when it's in neutral and the clutch is pushed in and out?

Get somebody competent to listen to it and tell you whether that's a problem and if so, what the problem is likely to be.

And for goodness' sake don't even think about changing water pumps and whatnot unless and until a problem has been diagnosed.

Remove auxilliary drive belt(s) and run engine, if it the noise is missing when you run the engine its something driven by the belt.
Have no idea if water pump is auxilliary belt driven, you'll have to look see unless someone here knows for sure.

I'm guessing that the OP is confused

The trouble with trying to guess what may be wrong with the OP's car (or, actually, not his car...) is the following scenario.

OP: Ah, so the DMF & clutch need replacing. That's what the internet said *Phones around for best price* *Books car in*

Garage: Righto sir, clutch and DMF replaced as requested, that'll be £1234 and 30p please.

OP: What's the 30p for?

Garage: Well, sir - while we were doing it, we noticed that your manifold heat shield was missing a bolt and was rattling on the downpipe. The 30p is the cost of the bolt to stop it rattling any more...

Internet diagnoses can be a dangerous guessing game when information is limited to dribs and drabs.

Don't take offence here OP but this statement proves you're clueless in this area. (No shame in that BTW)

Take it to a garage. Get someone competent to diagnose the issue while looking at the car.

Labour charges vary massively across the country. Talk of costs is pointless.

Its pure guesswork and speculation with getting the car looked at.

We could generate a list of 20 different things that could be at fault.

So has that changed from the original rattle only when stopped with engine running?
