Motorbike wiring query
Discussion
Hi,
I'm looking for some help with the following. I recently purchased my friends BMW G650 XCountry and I'm slowly working my way through some of the issues. My friend fitted a lithium battery which is slightly too big for the enclosure, and the result is that it has placed strain on the positive battery lead ring connector; this has been fixed in a rather Heath Robinson fashion, and ideally I would like to extend it by around 10mm(?). What would be the best way to join (connector) what I think might be 10mm cable?
Also, I need to crimp the ring terminals securely for the battery - any recommendation on the best crimping tool for this?
Thanks!

Is there room for something like this?
You will need to crimp suitable eyelets on obviously.

It seems to me those are designed for much bigger cables of the sort used for car batteries, not the small cables needed here. There are numerous butt splice connectors on the market which would do the job. I'd suggest replacing a length of cable sufficient that the splice doesn't need to move and can be strapped down. Flexing around the connector is a common cause of failure. Whatever method you use, make sure the joint is sealed. If you use a butt splice with a glued heat shrink connector this is extremely quick and easy to do.You will need to crimp suitable eyelets on obviously.
