It could be:

That the new battery is knackered.
That the car no longer recognises the key.
That the key has an electronic fault so it no longer transmits, or transmits a poor code.
That there is dirt on a battery terminal.
That the key wasn't put back together properly and now the buttons on the key don't activate the switches on the circuit board. (I've recently put some tissue paper into my car key to rectify this issue)
and probably some other possibilties.

Can you unlock the car with a physical key and start it that way?

Yes I can open the door and start the car with normal key but its just the buttons don't work. The new battery is good and i have assembled the fob back correctly. I think the previous battery was fine too and there might be a problem with the fob?.

Does your spare key work ok?

if you don't have a spare key, then it's probably time for an automotive locksmith or a main dealer.
