I've recently bought an XC60 for Mrs C and it transpires that there is no dipstick.

AIUI you can check the amount of oil using the digital multi-function display on the dashboard. However how does somebody check the quality of the oil? There is a "Service Due" indicator on the digital MFD but could this be reset by a lazy service tech and the owner be none the wiser?

I hope all that makes sense. Basically the Dealer promised me an oil and filter change pre-delivery. However, given that he tried skimping on a couple of other things my spidey-sense is tingling.

Usually, it's clever enough to have a sensor for the quality of oil too... A simple reset won't work for long.

You can buy a dipstick kit, it’s fitted to the Police specification cars.

I& it’s a diesel the oil will be filthy firs5 drive after a change anyway.

That sounds promising! Do you know how "Dodgy dealer"-proof it is? I have a vague recollection that when service lights were first implemented (on BMWs) it was quite easy to reset them?

Can you see if the oil filter is new and shiny?

BMW Mini are the same, infuriates the life out of me, as I have checked oil levels and condition for the last 51 years of driving.

I think it's a cartridge filter (so it's only the cartridge that gets changed rather than the casing)
