I have dropped a small piece of metal in the chamber through thw bore whilst changing the injector.
Does anyone know how to access the chamber without taking the head off?

Anyway you can dangle a magnet on a piece of string?

If you can don't drop it.

Cheap endoscope from Amazon.

Then you'll need to work out how to fix a sticky stick on the front of the endoscope to recover the foreign object. (To state the obvious, you don't want to lose your sticky stick in there as well.)

Didnt realise that modern DI diesels still had pre-combustion chambers. Every day’s a school day.

If you have a decent vacuum cleaner (I have a Henry for garage use):
Take out the bag so you can find something that gets sucked up.
Fit the crevice tool.
Get a length of suitable flexible plastic hose (clear is better) that will fit down the hole in the engine.
Push one end into the end of the crevice tool and seal the gap with tape.
Turn on the hoover and push the other end of the tube down the hole.
Keep your fingers crossed that it either sucks the bit out and into the hoover or the suction holds it to the end of the tube and lets you withdraw it.
Used this on lots of stuff, including cleaning out the holes after removing injectors (black death from sealing washer failures) & glowplugs from my Sprinter

You can get magnets on flexible shafts (ones on rigid telescopic shafts are more common, Screwfix do them) but most I've seen are a bit on the big side to try & fit down small holes - assuming that thing you've dropped in is magnetic in the first place!

Thanks all for your reply replies. The problem is that thw bit that fell in was a specialist part meant to cover the hole to stop stuff falling in, when we put the brush down to clean the hole it pushed the thingy down the hole. The thingy is/or was just slightly bigger than the hole by half a mm. So we need to force it back through the same hole. I will try the hoover that might have enough suction.

If you can get it to the hole you might then be able to grab it with needle-nose pliers for a firm tug.

That's what she said.
