Hi, just bought my other half a private reg and looking for some advice or recommendations on fixing the reg to the car. I don't want to screw the reg on so looking for alternates,

- sticky tape - looks good but I read that plates get stolen regularly.

- frame - looks the best middle ground for a better fix but the ones I found have huge frames which I'm not too keen on.

- clips - seem to have the same stealing issue as tape.

Are there any other methods that I have missed that would be a decent choice? Any recommendations on frames that are slimline? It's our first private reg so first time looking at this and thought it would be best to get opinions from people.wkth first hand experience

This, plus years of experience have told me that it is much more difficult and time consuming to remove a properly stuck-on reg plate that one held on with screws.

I suppose your right, I've never seen a screwless reg plate and thought it was just taped on and easy to take until I actually got a private reg and came across the problem. Most likely just over thinking in my part.

Thanks for the info, I'll get a roll of 25mm 3M VHB tape and run two strips at the back of the plate. Hopefully we don't have to take it off anytime soon as sounds like it might be a task and a half 😂

No it’s not. You cut it off with fishing line behind the plate!

If a thief wants your plates, it doesn't matter how they are attached and, to be fair, a clone is far more effective than alerting the real owner by nicking plates.

I used 3M tape but please use masking tape to measure up and ensure it is level and equidistant from the sides, before applying. Nothing worse than a wonky plate laugh

If the surface is curved I find that four vertical strips is better than two horizontal ones.

I've got a pair of the non car-specific ones of these https://www.fourdotdesignerplates.co.uk/cars which come with a fitting template.

I use M6 RivetNuts from MEMfast. Easy to take off to clean behind the plate

If your really worried you could use security screws, but as someone has already said, they pinch the number not the actual plates.
