I want a tig welder for restoring old lawn mowers, which units would you recommend?

If you're not looking to spend spectacular money, Clark stuff is *ok* from Machine Mart. Personally, if money wasn't the only consideration, I'd buy something from R Tech, simply because it's UK-made, decent quality, and their support is absolutely amazing.

R tech stuff is good, but they are sourced from China.

I wouldn't have thought that TIG was needed for lawn mower repairs.

My TIG and my MIG are both from the US of A

As Roger the Rep, if you'll pardon the expression, used to say, "There's no substitute for copper."

Agreed wouldn't think there's much that's needs Tig welding on them?
Mig would do most of the repairs I'd have thought?

Mig is just splashing metal about, and anyone can do it! TIG is a work of art when you get it right, and sooooo satisfying. However, on a serious note, TIG needs a very precise fit up and needs the work to be surgically clean of dust, oils, grease and other contamination, so may not be the right way forward. Also, are you looking for a DC only setup( only welds ferrous) or AC/DC( will also do Ali and others)
As Baldchap said above, for offshore stuff, R Tech is OK, but it most certainly is not made in the U.K. Their customer support is what makes them acceptable. Almost without a doubt, don’t touch the Clark stuff. My suggestion would always be to find a decent second hand Miller unit if TIG is the way forward that you decide.Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
