Hi all,

Battery in my e46 is dead, I’ve tried to bring it back to life with my Ctek but it has had it (load tester just reads BAD).

It’s a Bosch S5 (so not a cheapie) with the requisite 5 year guarantee, bought from Euro Car Parts, it is on my online account with the car reg on it, battery is just under 3 years old.

Do I just go in, slap it on the counter, show them the online account and they give me a replacement one, or is that just wishful thinking? Will there be hoops to jump through?

Yes, I think they'll give you another one, once they've verified that it's duff.

Though the replacement one will only come with the balance of the original 5 years warranty.

They have a sign on their counters with regards to returning batteries - that they will check and test them before replacing or refunding - I imagine people buy them and try and swap over the duff battery for a refund.

^^^^My experience exactly.
They used one of the battery drop testers & gave me a replacement.
The replacement doesn't restart the warranty period, you only get the balance of the original.

I tried claiming under ECP battery warranty a few years back without success.

They did everything to wriggle out of it, and at best they would not give a full refund or replacement.,

I had proof of purchase, but they denied it was bought from them, and would only refund part of the cost of the battery at best.
They also said I had failed to charge the battery, so it was my fault.

Interesting. My experience was much more positive.

I had a battery with a 5-year warranty fail at just over 4 years. Bosch Silver something-or-another. Couldn't find the receipt. Turned out I'd bought online and paid with PayPal. PayPal wouldn't give me a transaction history that far back so the only thing I had was an entry on a credit card statement from 4 1/2 years ago.

Called ECP. Explained the situation. They arranged for me to return it to my local branch. Which I did, with the reference number they gave me. No test done, given a new one straight over the counter. I asked about the warranty situation and was told that it re-started with the new battery, so another 5 years from that point.

I was impressed. Maybe I was lucky.

This doesn't add up, if you hadn't bought it from them, why would they offer any part or form of refund?

ETA - This was my experience too...

That is how all warranty claims work.

Also my experience. Pleasantly surprised with how it went.

Same experience here. Placed on counter, they tested, confirmed duff, replaced.

It was so simple

Just a small tip, I always fold a copy of the battery receipt into a coin bag and gaffer tape it to the side of the battery - helped me out on a few occasions over the years.

Well, took it in and they agreed to swap it (didn't test it), but didn't have one in (despite the website saying there was one in that branch!). Went back in today and they swapped it. Still didn't test it. No paperwork so it will still be the original 5 year warranty. Pretty happy with that. I guess it's more like "free replacements up to X years" rather than a warranty...

I always get my batteries from ECP.

This is because I mail ordered a battery form another "cheap" supplier years ago that had problems under warranty, and they said I have to send it back at my own cost for them to check it.
Have you every tried to post a battery ? Its bloody expensive because its hazardous. In the end I wrapped it in a thick plastic bag, boxed it and called it a machine part on the couriers form, still cost about £15 or so.
After over a week supplier said they'd replace it FOC as it was goosed.

last year, bought a battery from ECP, got it home tested it and voltage was low. Charged it all night, still low. Drove it back to ECP and exchanged it over the counter on the spot.
Far easier beer
