Now I have never bought these fuel additives before but with the price of diesel and the fact that I have a Defender TD5 with close to 100,000 miles on it, I thought I'd give it a shot (pardon the pun).

Having never bought a bad Würth product, I thought I'd give their Diesel Booster a try. It promises it:

Removes and removes contaminants even in the micro-zone
Ensures clean combustion
Neutralizes and binds condensed acidic water
Protects the fuel system from corrosion
Cleans and protects the tank up to the combustion chamber
Improves cetane number
Reduces fuel-related "noise"

Does anyone have any experience of using such cleaners?

Only real evidence I've had was a rough running bike, so petrol rather than diesel, tried all the flushes and treatments but ended up taking the injectors out and having them professionally tested and cleaned, which cured the problem.

On the evidence of that I'd say save your money.

I ran a forte bottle on my 530d which was vibrating at idle, after about 100 miles it smoothed out but I couldn’t say for certain if it was that…

Just had a look at the Forte stuff. Seems to get very good reviews indeed, Perhaps these are not all 'Snake Oil'.

I've actually already bought the Wurth stuff which I thought was quite pricey but looking at the Forte product, it seems to be the going rate.

Was it Wynns, STP or Redex who had an advertisement on here last year? I can't remember.
They couldn't back up one thing they were promoting in their advert.
So many people asked questions, it was a massive thread.
They actually pulled their own add in the end.
They were slated!

I understand the skepticism. I always thought the same and I certainly wouldn't put it in my 997 - fuelled on Optimax, etc but in a Defender that used to belong to the Army, I thought I'd give it a try. given the noise, the lack of economy and the vain hope that I can improve something, even slightly, on the bl**dy thing smile

Lots of folk swear by adding a small amount of 2 stroke oil to the fuel tank on Diesels!
Others just put in a tank of Super Diesel every now and again. No idea on a Petrol, I used to use Optimax in my sports and track bikes.
Good Luck.

I’m buying Hydra Diesel Power blast and adding a dose every time I fill up, because I’ve stopped using V-Power due to the hike in price. It used to be 8p more per litre which was ok but 15p more is taking the pee.

Used the Forte petrol equivalent version last year to help get a Mini through an MOT emissions test. It seemed to work. Can't say I actually felt any difference, though.

Said Mini is used sparingly and only locally by its owner for several years. Clearly the real problem is the cat efficiency is somewhat degraded as a result.

I've used mineral ATF in the past, seems to make a diesel a bit smoother, a bit of 2 stroke oil helps with pump lube as well

Snake oil or not - I have used a mixture of Millers and Forte over the years in my cars. When I had some work done and the inlet manifold was off the mech said it was the cleanest he'd seen.

Millers diesel treatment when I remember to add to the fill ups and once a year the full Forte treatment, turbo cleaner and DPF cleaner.

But the Inlet Manifold only let's air in?
The fuel mixture comes in elsewhere???

I’ve often seen diesel inlet manifolds full of black crap. That’s why I told my customers to use Forte.

Probably better off renewing or deleting the EGR?
Fresh air won't leave black crap.

ut they will if they have a Closed Crankcase Ventillation (CCV) system that puts the crap into the inlet manifold , as you said only air so no fuel to wash away the carbon build up,,,,

People who call these products snake oil tend to talk without any experience or had too much expectation from the product. Cleaning agents clean dirt at the end of the day.

I have used to great effect Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant to get rid of a cat converter under-efficiency code on my old BMW 320 CI sport, it was a lot cheaper than replacing them that's for sure. It claims to clean injectors too though not sure that was an issue in the first instance. However if it can clean the cats, well, should clean anything. Liqui Moli cat cleaner is about 5 times as expensive but worked faster. I kept the CAT under efficiency at bay for well l over 2 - 3 years and and their MOT passes.
