1991 golf g60 with hydraulic clutch

new slave , master , hose ..all set up on the bench and bled so master rod is hard when the slave is blocked , pedal has working return spring

transferred over to the car as is so not disturbed , all bolted on it works but the pedal is slow to come up to rest

any ideas ? i have found the original slave is 22mm , replaces are now 23.8 would that cause this? cant find a 22mm

I suppose that the master and/or slave are too tight and/or the return spring is too weak.

yeah im going to see if i can get another spring

in my mind it feels like the fluid is restricted from moving back fast enough

Does it have a clutch valve?

Is the clutch release itself freely moving?

I had the same problem caused by the actual lever going into the bell housing being sticky. Lubricated that with some light oil and the problem went away.

no clutch valve

everything moves like it ought when off the car /separate

anyone smart enough to tell me what 19mm master -22mm slave VS 19mm -24mm slave does ?

or would a undersize bore hose /pipe cause it?

Roughly 20% more pedal travel for a given clutch travel, and 20% less force at the pedal.

Ok, this car is about as different as you can get, but..

(TL:DR = 2016 Ford Mondeo, clutch pedal occasionally sticks to the floor, after many an hours work a small bit of O-ring is found lodged inside a different part, and would occasionally move and stop the fluid from returning, thereby holding the pedal down.)

Funnily enough I have had precisely this problem on my 944.

The cause was peculiar; the hydraulic fluid I used was too thick for the application. Not sure why; it was good quality stuff and the bottle had only been opened once some time past and was otherwise well sealed. But it seemed thick when I poured it in and the pedal movement was slow.

New fluid was noticeably thinner and problem solved.
