Electric shock from car?
Discussion
This is not at all common these days but used to be a well known problem, It happens because the tyres are insulators that act like a Van der Graaf generator. Two common solutions are to hang an earthing strap from the underside which extends down to the ground, or use an ordinary graphite pencil to draw a few lines radially on each tyre starting from the rim and extending onto the tread. They may need to be re-drawn from time to time.

As fitted to 1970's fords. Not seen any on a car for many many years.

I remember when you used to see loads of cars with the little rubber thing hanging down at the rear of the car to contact the floor.....i'm sure it was around the same time as people were using coat hangers for aerials and 'hand-rollering' the bottom half of their cars with brown paint to keep rust at bay.

I did not know that! Will get my pencil out this afternoon before resorting to a granny strip like you saw in the 1980s. Condi said:
New (to me!) car keeps giving me electric shock when getting out. As soon as I touch the door with my feet on the floor I get a static shock. Any ideas why? Old one never used to. it's getting really annoying
Any ideas???
Please post back with best solution
Any ideas??? Every time I stroke one of my cats she gets a shock and no longer comes to me as often, don't really fancy drawing pencil lines on my shoes or be walking around with chains on my feet
