Seems such a simple thing to ask about! I'm trying to remove the near side arm on my Discovery. Offside has come off using some penetrating oil and a puller. But despite soaking overnight and now using lubricating oil, the near side won't budge. Not helped because the spindle is located dead centre so am reaching over the the engine bay which on a Discovery is quite wide!
Tried tapping the end of the spindle with a hammer.
I've seen a suggestion of using heat but am nervous about that with the plastic trim through which the spindle projects and rubber grommet which sort of seals the resulting hole.

Any other tips anyone?

It is just a push-fit onto a tapered cone, the wiper spring effect may not be helping.

Lift the arm off the windscreen and get a small puller on it, with tension on the puller give it a tap taking care not to damage the thread (leaving the nut on the end can help this) and it should come ok.

Penetrating oil will do nothing as it can't get into the taper.

As you say heat can help but with plastics in the way that won't be easy, however you could find something metal that you could heat up & hold onto the outside of the bush to get some heat into it.

If you can't get it off without heat, you could try putting a soldeing blanket (like plumbers use) over the plastic trim & then heating

Put a large spanner around the spindle underneath the wiper, lever the spanner against the underside of the wiper then tap the spindle with a hammer (leave the nut on a few threads) and it'll pop off.

Will a ball-joint puller work?

Yes if it will fit.

Boiling water poured over it may help.

Or simply a taper wedge and a hammer. Or maybe even just the claw-end of a claw-hammer (obviously some protection, or choose carefully where you are applying the leverage.
