See this,

Xtrail pings/pongs randomly although nearly always at low speed. On this video you hear it twice as my wife reverses off the driveway and then forwards

Any thoughts as to what it might be?

I am thinking in no particular order:

Loose exhaust heat shield
Worn engine mount
Something within the clutch mechanism, maybe damaged pressure plate/fingers.

It's not springs - I've checked them.
Wishbones, ball joints all good.

Might be electronic parking brake, but unlikely.

There's a distinct ring to it so I'd suspect a strut mount. But if you take it to a garage or mention it next time it's in for servicing I'm sure they'll work it out for you. If you want to DIY it you need to be up close with your hand on the parts you suspect are making the noise, not recording it from across the street.

turns out it was a brake heat /dust shield that had bent somehow and was catching the end of the wishbone whilst going from lock to lock. easy fix in the end.
