Steel Seal - on race use engine
Discussion
Hello.
I have a standard 106 GTI engine in a race car with a head gasket failure.
The obvious answer is to replace the head gasket however I heard good things about steel seal (that brand not others) that state it fixes a head gasket leak permanently.
If it was a car for road use I’d be using it no problem. However the engine is in my race car and all that that entails.
So will it work for that purpose. My head says yes, but maybe someone else has actually used it in a race engine.
I would imagine that I’ll do an engine rebuild over the winter I just need a fix for 1x race weekend.
As stated the engine is standard, the blow is on cyl 3 as this has slightly lower compression and the top of the piston is clean(er). I’ve also done a test on the coolant.
Currently there is no white smoke out of the exhaust.

Depends if you have anything to fight for champ position wise.
I would either have pulled the head immediately which isn't ever actually that much work, you spend more time deliberating about stuff like this sometimes than it takes to just fix it properly ... OR sit it out IMO. It costs a lot of money just on entry fees, testing, food, fuel, travel etc ... Just to do a few laps and spew coolant everywhere which I guarantee no one will thank you for.
When's the race?
