MK2 Yaris 2008 - 80,000 Miles.

Few weeks back when driving it feels as if my foot is being tapped very lightly when using the pedal at times ( then sometimes it's completely fine ).

Pedal doesn't have any play in it whatsoever and feels to be secure, no problems accelerating either.

However if I turn the engine off and press the pedal with my hand forward and backwards, it feels as if it doesn't move as smoothly as before, it doesn't stick or anything like that. Is this just wear and tear or is it something serious ?

This is what the mechanism looks like, it is entirely electric. Nothing to do with the throttle body as I feel the sensation even with the car off and have no symptoms of a bad throttle body.

MOT is in a couple of weeks so best to wait until then and ask someone more experienced ?

Replacing the whole thing isn't an option as I cannot find any parts brand new, just from breakers on eBay. If it isn't serious then I'm happy to live with it. Perhaps a tiny bit of silicone thick grease on the outside of the black box ( mechanism )

Have you checked the MOT site to see if there's any outstanding recall?

According to Wikipedia the Yaris was on the list...

It says " No Outstanding Safety Recalls Found "

The car was purchased used approved from Toyota around 2018

On the link you posted, my car is on the list. Not sure whether I should contact Toyota ?
Says "The condition is rare and does not occur suddenly. It can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position."

I don't have any of these symptoms

If your car is not listed, and you're not experiencing any of the symptoms then maybe it's not due a recall.

I guess the issue is, if you phone Toyota they want you to bring the car into them and needless to say, an inspection will likely cost £££.

I doubt they would commit to anything over the phone (unless a new unpublicised issue has been discovered).

OK thanks for the info.

Strange how my car is listed on that Wiki page but on the MOT website it says "no recalls"

Suppose I can keep an eye on it and if I do experience any of those then contact Toyota
