Hi

I have a 2017 Fiesta.

When trying to remove the radiator cap the top part of the cap came away from the bottom part. I can now remove the top bit but the bottom part is firmly wedged in. I have the new cap.

How do I get the bottom bit out or should I just go to a garage?

Thanks

Is what’s left sealing the expansion tank (assuming it’s the expansion tank we’re talking about, not the radiator itself)? And is it still held in by any of the thread?

Depending on what the stub looks like would affect how I’d tackle it. If it’s going to need unscrewing still to get it out it’s a different problem to the o-ring seal ‘grabbing’ and it needing pulling.

I’m hazarding a guess that the remains being stuck is what caused the top of the old cap to part company from it in the first place…

Edited to add: any chance of a picture or two?

I'd be grabbing that with a set of mole grips and giving it a good pull...

That would be my first port of call. If you have no mole grips, time to get them!

Bit concerned I'll pull the expansion tank off!

They’re designed to withstand heat and stress, they’re pretty strong. A little red antifreeze to lubricate it down the edges and twist/pull with mole grips.

Very common for fords.
Set of pliers etc and a gentle pull and twist is what was done in ford workshop.
Last resort is remove bottle and hammer and screwdriver.

A bit of silicone grease on the o-ring of the replacement can help stop it happening again. As someone mentioned above they’re a common issue on Fords over the past few years.
