Audi 8L - fires but won't run - suspect water ingress

My O/H has an '02 Audi A3 8L - it fires but won't stay running.

The dashboard is also not illuminating when turning on the ignition.

Does this sound like water ingress into the comfort module?

There was also an ESP warning when trying to start it.

I didn't try anything else as yet, as we were on our way out earlier this evening s we just grabbed my car instead.

Pull up carpets and check under seats. Many modules under here and this is where water seems to collect.
