Had cambelt and water pump changed on Passat a month ago. Now the heater isn't getting very hot even on 30 mile trip. Temp gauge stays where normally is mid of gauge. No loss of water ,the water level hasn't changed. A bit puzzled any ideas ?

Bleed the cooling system, not done properly when the water pump was changed.

Sounds like an air lock in the system

It’ll need the heater core bleeding properly, sometimes they can be a pain, requiring a few little tricks depending on which particular car.

What year/engine is the car?

As above, the chimp that did the job didn't bleed the system after doing the job.

Personally, I would take it back to them, tell them the issue & what has caused it, insist they do the job properly for the quoted price & then never go there again.
