I've an old Hyandai used regularly but local trips. For the last 5-6 yrs the ignition lock is a bit sticky and some times fails to turn. Irritatingly Mrs PR can usually get it to work quickly, but she's not always there and it can take me ages.

I've tried some dry grafite powder lube, no real difference. Should I try something like this?

Or is it best to just replace the lock, concerned it'll let me down at an inconvenient moment.

Most likely the key or barrel is simply worn out. Do you have a second key to try, to see if it is any better?

A bit of silicone spray grease is often perfect.

I'd say just get a new one. It will be typical it will fail when you're miles from anywhere, it'll be dark and raining.

This or PTFE spray.

I thought that all locks should be lubricated with dry graphite powder, but when I last looked into it that no longer seems to be the case.

Or you could treat the car to a tank of super, whisper sweet nothings into its air filter then play with the radio knobs a bit before you put the key in...

Silicone or PTFE is better than wd40, graphite is better as it's dry so no dust or gunge
Try rubbing a pencil along the key first

The pencil trick was an old trick, just go to an art shop and get a 2B or 4B sketching pencil.
