Hi folks,

I've exhausted (see what I did there) all general options so thought I'd turn to the power of the PH collective.

I need a couple of inches of 3.75" (95.2mm) OD thinwall mild steel tube to tunnel in some back lights on my VW project - I can't find anything anywhere frown

Does anyone know of / have any of this stuff? (happy to pay for it) smile

Many thanks in advance,
Matt.

eBay has shed loads if you search "steel tube"?

Sadly, not at 3.75" it doesn't.

Yep - 4" is too big, and 3.5" is too small.

Its like a goldilocks story..

Apologies. Doesn't seem to be a stock item anywhere.

Get friendly with someone with a lathe? How short can the pieces be?

Surely a metal workshop could roll you some sheet to that diameter.

Yep - that's plan B if this doesn't work

Easy to fabricate. Just cut two strips 3.75 X 3.14 = 11.78" to the width you need the depth to be.
Form it around something close to the diameter, weld the ends together.

There is a flaw in this plan if you can't weld?

3.75 isn't a standard size, just get some rolled! Or DIY if you can be bothered with the faff

I'd pop into your local scrap merchants. Failing that, exhaust suppliers or breakers? 3.75" seems like a fairly common size for exhaust tips.

That's the closest I could find, but unfortunately it's stainless.

Thanks for all the thoughts people, much appreciated. I'll see what I can come up with re. fabrication.

Cheers,
Matt.

These guys have it:

https://proformancemetals.co.uk/en-10305-1-cds/

Haven't used them personally, but heard very good things about them, and planning to source all the sheet and tube I need for my current project from them.

Not clear if they ship, but they to have an ebay store for offcuts and the like, so don't see why not.

Simply have a wander around your local supermarket with a tape measure in hand, something will be in a can of the size you need..

Failing that then one of the big pound shops, a vase, cooking utensil etc etc will fit the bill for your needs.

This is how I find all the quirky bits of metal for my projects, nice and cheap as well.

Matt,
Paul has a good idea, or else as you just need a short length to mount your rear lights, get some 4" tube, and some Jubilee clips!
Cut the right length of tube, slice it lengthways, compress it with the clips and weld it shut.

Voila!
John

It would be useful for any future searcher if you said how.
