MOT was aborted due to the discovery of substantial rot on the spring cups.

I've been advised to weld or replace the entire rear axle. Nae good.

Was wondering if anyone has an idea of how much it would be to replace the axle / is it worth it?

Is it as big a job as it sounds?

Happened on my sister’s 08 Panda, the rear right suspension collapsing when the axle rusted through.

Not as expensive to repair as expected due to the simple design of the components but still in the hundreds of pounds with a friendly garage.

It's not as difficult as it looks, I've done a few on the drive. You can buy the axle online for about £150, new & delivered.

The worst part is the brake pipes. These may need to be replaced as they can break when they are undone from the Flexi hoses.

You'll need 2 trolley jacks, axle stands and a breaker bar + usual tools.

Back end up.
Remove brake pipes, drums, shoes & handbrake cables.
Hubs off, 4 bolts from behind.
Remove the lower shock mounts.
Take the weight of the axle on the 2 trolley jacks and undo the 6 bolts holding the axle onto the car.

If you rather pay someone to do it, it would only take a garage about 3 hours to do.

Good luck. It's worth it.

Cheers, went to a couple of garages today. Both said pretty much the same thing, whole thing needs replacing along with the handbrake cable and brake flexi pipes.

Both were at an equal cost wise - about £500 or so
