Old Mechanical Fuel Pumps Leaking

I'm selling off my father's classic car collection and have an old school mechanic helping me get them all back to running order

Today we've found the A35 and a 40's Hudson have leaking mechanical fuel pumps - he's told me to buy replacements

I don't understand why we can't fix the leak which seems to be from the central diaphragm - is this the norm ?

I suspect finding replacements isn't simple

I suspect finding a replacement pump for such a car may well be easier than a repair kit, but either is possible, why not try both possibilities.
