Yesterday, my C5's electric hand brake failed, wouldn't go on. Then, it locked on - embarrassing at traffic lights! RAC Tech advised ten presses of the pedal with the engine off, then ten with it on and the hand brake switch down (release) - it worked! Able to drive home, but dashboard lights up, ESP and parking brake warnings of course, but also power steering warning and the engine fault light is on! Plus, at idle, the engine speed hunts, 800-1200rpm continuously.

It's boked in for a diagnostic at the semi-local (30 miles away!) Citroen dealer, but they can't take it for three weeks so plenty of time to fiddle. And to have so many different systems showing faults at once tells me that it has some connector come loose. Deal with that and I'll save my wallet a fainting fit, fthe fine for using the Citroen dealer's diagnostic kit.

I'll be grateful for any ideas!

Check that the alternator is charging (14+ volts across the battery terminals when engine running) and that the battery isn't knackered (should be 12.5+V across the terminals after the engine has been off for a few hours)

It's surprising what glitches appear when the electrics aren't getting the voltage they need, and it's easy to check.

ETA it's not impossible you have multiple fault causes. Might have a game of whack a mole on your hands! But how satisfying it is once it's all working again.
