Hi All,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum (mods, please move post, if so).

I buy the 5 litre bottles of windscreen wash from Halfords and have been using a funnel to get them into the reservoir in my car, but even that usually involves some sloshing and spillage, so thought I'd find myself a spout with its own closure/cap on the end, which screws on to the bottle in place of its cap, much like the ones you get on a petrol can, for instance.

It seems however that the diameter used on petrol cans (and used on anything I've found online for sale) is significantly larger than these bottles which I'd have previously thought have a standard sized cap.

Surely such a simple thing exists somewhere?

It seems the cap has an external diameter of 43mm and an internal one of 39mm, if that narrows it down.

Many thanks for any pointers!

Michelin's pre-mixed Screenwash used to be in 5L containers with a flip cap spout.
Brilliant design, probably binned off in favour of saving a couple of cents.

I don't know whether you can still buy them.

Rotate the 5 litre bottle so that the label is facing up towards you and the bottle is flat like a book - then pour, much less glugging.

Watcher of the skies - Probably true!

This is one of those "once I have an idea, I can't give up until it's solved" things

I suspect the best solution would be to get something 3D printed to match the dimensions of your specific motorcar.

Otherwise just look out for a short yet wide funnel for a couple of quid in a random hardware store.

Perhaps a small watering can might also do the trick - can also be used to pre-mix concentrated fluid.

Why don't you just get a normal funnel?

I've been using a funnel until now, which works fine, but thought a spout of the nature I have in mind would be a better solution. Doesn't seem worth getting something made specially for an essentially needless thing. Was just surprised they weren't freely available.

I just tried it and it fits a 5L screenwash.

Costco, or if you have no access here you go - comes with a spout.

I have this (but the genuine skoda version) fitted to my Golf. They are fitted to Skodas as standard but will also fit any VW group car (and any other car with the same diameter filler)

Only recently fitted to Škodas, I assume. Looks like it could be useful for ours.
I use a funnel cut back, in fact I have just used it to completely fill both our Škoda and BMW.

.
It holds itself in.

You could try one of those pliable funnel devices that has a cup at the top that can conform to opening of your fluid container. They seem to mostly come in pink and blue pastel shades though scratchchin

Alternatively, one of these collapsible funnels with a cup and flexible top cap might do the job?

Katzenjammer - Ha! Be a first to go to Boots rather than Halfords for car related stuff!

Make a hole with a screwdriver in the 5l can just by the handle (at the furthest point from the spout) before you start pouring. Then the air can get in without having to go through the spout - no sloshing.
